A Blastrac customer recently carried out a project within an existing storage tank at Shell Moerdijk by blasting its internal surface, using its 900VMB vertical steel blaster and 900DC dust collector. The 900 VMB was used in combination with a Manitou crane in order to position the equipment against the tank shell.
Firstly, it was essential to curate and clean out a door into the tank to make an entrance for the Manitou. Once it was done, it could access inside the tank and then be used. A lifting beam was specially designed to be connected between the 900VMB vertical steel blaster and the Manitou. The integrated endless winch system of the 900VMB, remotely controlled, was used to maneuver up and down.
The objective of this project was to blast the internal surface of the tank with SA 2,5 profile, prior to the application of a new coating. The Blastrac 900VMB is a highly effective option over Manual Open Air Blasting. Our 900VMB vertical steel blaster works in closed circuit, so there is no dust released into the environment. In addition, the abrasive is recycled which makes the steel blasting process really cost effective.
