A Successful Steel Blasting Jobsite in Sweden

Blasting of 10.000 m2 of steel on a Ro-Ro cargo ship

The vessel JUTLANDIA SEAWAYS is a Ro-Ro cargo ship built in 2010 and currently sailing under the flag of the United Kingdom. It is in operation between Cuxhaven, Germany and Immingham, in the United Kingdom.

The objective of the task was to remove the slippery & rusty surface before the application of a new coating. In total, 4 decks have been blasted: 3 inside decks and 1 top deck for a total surface of 10.400 m2.

Our customer had to carry this task out in a limited period of time, so several sets of machines were deployed:
– 2 sets of 500S steel blaster in combination with a BDC-99 dust collector
– 1 set of 2-48DS shot blaster in combination with a 2-48DC dust collector

Steel blasting is one of the most effective and environmentally friendly methods of removing paint, coatings, non-skid and other contaminants from steel surfaces. There is no abrasive left on the floor due to its closed-circuit principle. There is a dust free environment thanks to the powerful dust collection system connected to the machine, which helps to protect the environment of debris. Furthermore, steel blasting is much faster, cost effective, and safer than open blasting!

Here is a video of this successful application.
